Gary Tansley

gtansley@excaliburactuaries.co.uk
Phone 03330 349707

Gary is an actuary, having worked for over 30 years as a consulting actuary, advising a wide range of private and public sector schemes and their sponsors.

Gary was trained at a leading actuarial consultancy, initially working on a range of clients from both the insurance and pensions markets. He later specialised in pensions, advising trustees on such issues as funding and actuarial factors, and advising employers on pension accounting issues as well as many mergers and acquisitions. On his way to becoming an Associate, he led a team of about 18 qualified and student actuaries and co-ordinated the provision of services to clients from a variety of specialist teams.

After 22 years, Gary moved to a much smaller consultancy, which he helped to grow by preparing research materials and press releases. That was followed by joining the Government Actuary’s Department, where he gained an insight into the workings of public sector pensions.

Before joining Excalibur Actuaries, Gary held two temporary positions at Aviva plc, during which he took a central role in analysing the impact on the Group’s finances of the initial £1.75 billion buy-in transaction between Aviva’s UK life insurance business with the trustees of Aviva’s main staff pension scheme.

Gary is divorced and, in his spare time, is an enthusiastic, but rarely successful, golfer and a keen quizzer.
